Percusión - Percussion
PREP
Spanish
Over the last 4 weeks we have been establishing a routine for the beginning of la clase de música. We have been learning to say Hola (Hello) or Aquí (Here) during the roll call. Some students have been very creative and have combined the words in different ways:
Hola, Aquí!
Aquí, aquí, hola!
It's lovely to see the different personalities taking the few words they know and trying to modify the way they are used!
We also discuss the weather at the beginning of the class.
I ask:
¿Clase hay lluvia? (Is there rain?)
¿Clase hay nubes? (Are there clouds?)
¿Clase hace sol? (Is it sunny?)
¿Clase hace frio? (Is it cold?)
(*we do not pronounce the letter 'H' in Spanish it is silent so the word Hace = ah-seh)
The students are getting very good at recognising these words and replying:
Si/No hay/hace ________. (Yes/No It is/There is_____.)
Finally, we sing our Hola Hola song, which the preps sing with great enthusiasm and very well after only a few weeks at school!
MUSIC
Over the last two weeks we have been learning about instruments that belong to: la familia de percusión (per-coo-syon) - the percussion family. Instruments that we can shake, shake ,shake or instruments that we bang, bang, bang usually belong to this family.
When working with instruments we split into groups, the Tick Tocks and the Shake shakes.
Students are working well and learning to play their instrument only when their group is asked and using the correct rhythm.
Tubo de sonido de dos tonos - Two tone block
Huevo maraca - Egg shakers
Palos de ritmo - Rhythm sticks
Cascabeles - Jingle bells
We are developing the ability to sing and play our instruments at different parts of our song and students are eager to learn and try their best.
Grade 1
Spanish
Over the last 4 weeks we have been establishing a routine for the beginning of la clase de música.
During roll call, students are utilising their previous Spanish vocabulary and can say:
Buenos Días/Buenas tardes (Good Morning/Good Afternoon)
Hola (Hello)
Aqui (Here)
We also discuss the weather at the beginning of the class.
I ask:
¿Clase hay lluvia? (Is there rain?)
¿Clase hay nubes? (Are there clouds?)
¿Clase hace sol? (Is it sunny?)
¿Clase hace frio? (Is it cold?)
(*we do not pronounce the letter 'H' in Spanish it is silent so the word Hace = ah-seh)
The students are able to recall key Spanish vocabulary without any body gestures and then reply in Spanish:
Si/No hay/hace ________. (Yes/No It is/There is_____.)
Students have learnt a new Spanish song and have been eager to sing it, they have also made modifications to the song. A student in one of the Grade 1 classes wanted to add the english words to our song, to help remind them of the meaning of the Spanish words and now all our grade 1 classes sing this version.

Students in Grade 1 are learning to keep a steady beat while singing a song. One of our students recommended the kookaburra song, while another student recommended we add some flair to the end of the song.
This week Grade 1 students will be working with instruments in groups, the Tick Tocks and the Shake shakes.
Students are learning to play their instrument only when their group is asked and using the correct rhythm. We will be using the following instruments:
